Brown, Irene Bennett. (Author). Klein, Laurie. (Added Author).

Summary: Eighteen-year-old Bryn Kinney knows nothing about her family. She doesn't even know for sure that the woman who raised her-the woman she called Gram- was really her grandmother. When Gram dies, Bryn learns some startling news: someone has been sending her money since she was a baby. It was money Gram and she really could have used, but Gram just put it away. Now it is Bryn's to use to trace her past.

Gr 7-10 A search for roots is 16-year-old Bryn's reason for undertaking a journey from Oregon to Kansas. With the death of Gram, Bryn has lost the only family she's ever known. Her unresponsive, secretive grandmother, unwilling to share her past with Bryn, leaves Bryn apprehensive about what she might unearth. However, the search results in reuniting family lost to each other, and in a romance. This is obviously not a novel whose purpose is to confront the question of legal rightsBryn readily accepts the fact that her birth records are sealed. No suspense is really built up, even with the mysterious warnings Bryn receives during her search for clues. Several years ago, a rash of novels such as Lois Lowry's Find a Stranger, Say Good - bye (Houghton, 1978) appeared, but the appeal of the subject now seems a bit passe. Attractive cover art adorns an essentially quiet but readable novel. Rita S. Padden, Wenatchee Public Library, Wash. Copyright 1985 Cahners Business Information.
